Balance - my approach to wellbeing.
Over the past 18 years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside people facing all kinds of health challenges — whether that’s navigating cancer recovery, menopause, anxiety, burnout, or chronic illness. My passion is supporting people to reconnect with their own sense of balance and wellbeing, even when life feels uncertain or overwhelming.
Balance is often a moving swing!
Chinese medicine offers a powerful, compassionate framework for health and healing — one that doesn’t just treat symptoms, but supports the whole person.
Recently, I shared more about my journey and approach in a Q&A with Viney Hall Physiotherapy and Other Therapies, where I currently offer appointments. For the full article visit: A Conversation with Acupuncturist Jennie Heckford Here’s a glimpse into that conversation meanwhile:
What first drew you to acupuncture?
I first discovered acupuncture as a teenager when I was struggling with anxiety and psoriasis due to exam stress. That experience stayed with me. Chinese medicine gave me a compassionate, empowering way to understand health as something dynamic and personal.
Now, over 30 years later, acupuncture is still a support for me personally, and I’ve built a career helping others find their own resilience through life’s challenges.
Who do you work with?
I support people at many different stages of life and health — from those recovering from cancer treatment and managing chronic pain, to people navigating menopause, anxiety, burnout, and beyond.
Often people come to acupuncture feeling disconnected from themselves. Maybe they’re struggling with sleep, mood, energy, or physical pain. Acupuncture offers space to gently rebalance the body and mind, helping people feel more grounded, calm, and resourced.
Can acupuncture help alongside cancer treatment?
Yes, and this has been a big part of my work. I spent 14 years supporting people with and beyond breast cancer, helping to manage side effects of treatment such as peripheral neuropathy (nerve pain or numbness), hot flushes, and ongoing fatigue.
But perhaps just as important, acupuncture can help ease the emotional weight of a diagnosis — supporting anxiety, low mood, and the sense of losing touch with yourself during a challenging time.
What’s your approach?
My style is gentle and thoughtful. I work with care, creating a calm and unhurried space where people can feel safe and listened to.
I’ve been fortunate to share my experience not only with clients, but also as a speaker to acupuncture students, peers, and members of the conventional medical profession — helping to build bridges so people can access support that feels joined up, rather than fragmented.
